I read this article (https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/How-Twitter-Has-Changed-Under-Elon-Musk/639041/) about Twitter and various changes it has experienced under its new leadership (Elon Musk). In short, they've all been at best... well-intentioned, and at worst the final nail in the coffin of this social media. This isn't necessarily digital-art related per se, however, the changes he's made to the app do affect digital creators and the ability to spread digital art to an audience as far as Twitter goes.
There are a few specific ways that he's changed the way that the app operates that directly harm people's ability to spread their art, starting with how he has trashed the algorithm into something almost incomprehensible. Twitter was known as one of the better social media for spreading digital art when it came to reach (how many people actually see and interact with your work) as opposed to something like Instagram, better for a portfolio-like online presence but harder to go viral on. However, Elon has made it so that the algorithm to be seen on Twitter no longer relies on old-fashioned re-tweets or just seeing the people you follow on your timeline, it's now a pay-to-win for the chance at going viral, and with the new landscape of Twitter having an $8 blue-check is almost like wearing a "kick-me" sign. So it's a lose-lose battle.
This is not even to mention the rule changes he's made in regard to hate speech, like unbanning actual Nazis vs. declassifying transphobia as "hate speech," we really are watching one of the pillars of classic social media die an embarrassing and slow death. And Elon claims to be backing down from making so many changes personally, but it'll be a long road (if ever) before Twitter will return to being decently usable like it used to be.
