I read this article about ChatGPT (https://www.pcguide.com/apps/what-is-chat-gpt/) and it basically summarizes what it is, how it works, and the predictions for the future of chat-based AI.
To summarize, ChatGPT is like any other artificial intelligence that pulls from human-created content (in this case writing) and uses the information it's gathered to approximate something based on the inputs of the person using the tool. Also, the article mentions that very recently there have been a number of competitor AIs coming out that are making this market more competitive, including a chat-based AI from China. There was also a mention of one from Elon Musk, but frankly, I don't think that's much of a concern at the moment.
Overall, my stance on all AI tech and its development has stayed pretty similar; I don't think AI itself is bad and the development of technology is always cool and fascinating to witness. And AI can be so useful in so many ways. My apprehension about AI in society these days is just more of a moral and philosophical issue. The tool itself is something neutral, but we see it being misused against human artists who are being stolen from for these AI to exist at all, with no credit even. And that's not even to mention things such as deep fake technology that violates consent and spreads misinformation, I think that while watching this unfold and grow, ChatGPT is, unfortunately, going to be used more for nefarious purposes than neutral-good ones. For example, as of right now, there is the Hollywood writer's strike, and in spite of that, there are discussions to attempt AI-generated scripts as opposed to paying people fair wages, which is an ethical issue that AI is just being used to ignore and bandaid.
