Artist Statement:

With this, it was one of my first attempts at trying to look at values/colors before lines. And it wasn't exactly the most successful; I still drew lines first and added color back after-- but I did learn in many ways how lines and colors aren't mutually exclusive. For the reference I picked for this piece, I wanted to have one with strong rim lighting around the figures, and adding that rim light back to the colors post-lineart made me realize that I could just do that in the first place, I didn't need a line necessarily to tell me where to place it. And overall, this piece had many small parts like that, where I realized that instead of seeing something as a line, seeing it as the value might actually make the process easier to complete.

This piece also encouraged me to play around with color palettes, in that I wanted to really emphasize the red/blue in each of the figures!
