Listening back on this I do realize that if you weren’t going into it thinking about it being wet– it probably sounds like chewing. Very nasty chewing. However, for that reason I decided not to title it (at the time). I didn’t want to put any expectations in anyone's head; it was meant to be interpreted however each individual person saw fit in my opinion.
While that does hold true, I did at least want it to be unsettling, if not a bit creepy. Going into this project I was entirely at the mercy of whatever sounds we had available, and I made it work I think. I did use my own sound as the center of the “story” (the crunchy walking), and used other sounds to supplement it and help emphasize the ambiance. I was happy to find very weird noises, like an egg being fried, or noises that were untitled that I couldn't even tell what they were! It allowed me to create the sopping wet creepy cave creature story that I did.
Likewise, I do realize that, in having a whole lot of fun with no aim– there was no story. Or at least not much. And I wanted to expand on that, from the artist's point of view.
The sound is meant to start off walking through a (sopping wet) cavern of sorts, where you’re around other people. I’m thinking of it as a shopping hub or something similar, but it’s a damp cave. And in this cave… there’s a beast. A creature. And to me, this creature is something that people don’t really disturb just because it’s either aggressive or wild or both. But you, the listener, approach! It’s obviously disturbed by this, but you go on with your day. And then I imagine you’re walking further and further into this cavern, for whatever reason. I added the page flipping noises to signify that this is a story of sorts, albeit a very weird one! And then everything else was left very open to interpretation; unlike the former half which I explained, the latter half was very much just seeing what sounded fun/exciting/jarring and going with that until I liked how it sounded as a whole.
