Brainstorm Blog #1

For this project, I was unsure of what I wanted to independently study since there are so many interesting things that I could want to learn more about. So I decided that it would be best to start out slow with something I was more familiar with– simple digital drawing and rendering. For this project I really just wanted to focus on my skills in regards to coloring and lighting, and shape as well. Not so much realism, but I also want to consider rendering digitally as I might traditionally. I wasn’t able to take a traditional painting class this semester, so I am also trying to keep in mind traditional painting techniques in terms of my digital art as well.

From my last semester final project (pictured below) I realized I really enjoyed aspects of rendering this and I would love to push it further, as well as my appreciation for colors. I’ve noticed that sometimes lineart can become very tedious to draw, and so if I could better rely on painting techniques that mean I can go from sketching to coloring directly I think it would be a lot of fun.

Likewise, as much of my art is based on them I would like to also base this piece on any one of my DND characters, because I love portraying their fantastical themes, and they’re very malleable to work with in terms of subject matter. I also would like to (in theory) try animating this, however due to us not being in the classroom and not wanting to purchase the adobe suite I may not be able to do this at the moment.
